The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has embarked on a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tokyo National Museum aimed at enriching cultural cooperation and facilitating knowledge exchange between Abu Dhabi and Japan.

This significant agreement was finalized at DCT Abu Dhabi's headquarters, with Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, overseeing the signing. Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, and Makoto Fujiwara, Executive Director of the Tokyo National Museum, formalized the MoU.

The partnership sets forth an extensive framework for collaborative efforts in museum research, education, and the professional development of curators. Its primary aim is to encourage cross-cultural exchanges, enhance curatorial methods, and create avenues for joint exhibitions and public programs that elevate understanding between Emirati and Japanese cultures.

Al Mubarak highlighted that this agreement demonstrates Abu Dhabi's dedication to fostering significant international cultural partnerships. He stated that cooperation with the Tokyo National Museum would bolster mutual learning, institutional development, and enduring connections, emphasizing the vital role of culture in bridging communities and inspiring future generations.

Fujiwara expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting its potential to enhance the global museum community through shared knowledge and creative dialogues. He mentioned that this partnership will facilitate joint exhibitions and heritage projects that can introduce audiences in both nations to the richness of their cultural traditions.

Under the MoU, the two institutions will work together on the research, conservation, and preservation of cultural artifacts, including opportunities to lend artifacts reciprocally. The agreement also highlights training and exchange initiatives designed to develop museum experts and promote ongoing cooperation.

Additionally, this partnership will usher in joint exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural workshops in Abu Dhabi, enhancing public engagement and promoting dialogue through cultural exchange and education.

This agreement further articulates DCT Abu Dhabi's broader mission to fortify international cultural connections and position the emirate as a pivotal hub for museum collaboration, research, and the exchange of best practices. The MoU heralds a new era in the cultural ties between Abu Dhabi and Japan, anchored in shared principles of creativity, education, and mutual appreciation.
