Connor Bedard Injured in Final Seconds, Misses Next Game

Post by : Mina Carter

Connor Bedard, the star forward for Chicago, suffered an injury in the final moments of a 3-2 loss against St. Louis on Friday night, forcing him to miss the team’s next game. The incident occurred with just 0.8 seconds remaining when Bedard attempted a last-second faceoff to give Chicago a final chance to score. In the play, he was knocked down by Blues center Brayden Schenn and immediately grabbed his right shoulder before heading to the locker room with a trainer. His teammates remained on the ice and the bench, watching as their star left the game.

Chicago’s coach, Jeff Blashill, confirmed that Bedard would not play in Saturday’s game against Detroit. “He won’t play tomorrow. I’ll likely have more information over the weekend, probably by Monday,” Blashill said. When pressed about the severity or expected recovery time of the injury, Blashill said he did not want to speculate without proper information. “Until we get the details, he’s out for tomorrow’s game,” he added.

Before the game, Bedard was ranked fifth in NHL points and had been a key contributor for Chicago this season. In Friday’s match, he assisted on both of Chicago’s goals, raising his season totals to 12 goals and 25 assists. The injury occurred in a particularly tense moment: the Blues iced the puck, and a half-second was added back to the clock, prompting Bedard to attempt the final faceoff in desperation.

Blashill described the incident as a “freak accident” and indicated that there appeared to be no foul play involved. “Honestly, I think it was just a freak accident,” he said. Bedard’s absence will be felt in the upcoming game against Detroit, as the team will need to adjust its strategies without one of its top performers.

The team and fans alike will be watching closely over the weekend for updates on Bedard’s condition, hoping for a quick recovery for the young star.
