At its peak, the spacecraft reached a record distance of over 406,000 kilometres from Earth, surpassing previous human spaceflight records.
The mission is designed to test critical systems needed for future lunar landings and deeper space exploration, including planned missions to Mars. During the journey, the Orion spacecraft performed a close flyby of the Moon, coming within approximately 6,500 kilometres of its surface.
Officials noted that Hansen and his fellow crew members are expected to travel more than two million kilometres over the course of the mission. The live call served as a reminder of the importance of international collaboration, with Canada working closely with the United States and other partners in advancing space exploration goals.
