The Canadian Space Agency has announced a special live event where Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney will speak with astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who is currently part of the historic Artemis II mission around the Moon. The event will take place on April 8 and will mark the third and final live space-to-Earth communication for the mission.

The interaction will happen virtually, with the Prime Minister joining remotely while other officials and guests attend in person at the John H. Chapman Space Centre in Longueuil, Quebec. The event is expected to begin at 7:00 pm ET, with the live connection to space scheduled shortly after.

Canada’s Minister of Industry, Mélanie Joly, will also be present during the event. The session will open with a traditional prayer of thanksgiving led by Bryan Akwirente Deer, Chief of the Bear Clan of the Mohawk Nation of Kahnawake, highlighting cultural respect and inclusion.

A key part of the event will be an interactive question-and-answer session featuring young Canadians. Students selected from STEM organizations like Actua and Let’s Talk Science, along with Air Cadets, will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to astronaut Jeremy Hansen. This initiative aims to inspire young people and encourage interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Another Canadian astronaut, Joshua Kutryk, will attend the event in person, adding further significance to Canada’s role in space exploration. The Canadian Space Agency has emphasized that this event showcases the country’s growing contribution to international space missions.

The Artemis II mission is a major milestone in global space exploration, marking humanity’s return to the Moon’s orbit after several decades. Canada’s involvement, including Jeremy Hansen’s participation, highlights the country’s important role in advancing lunar exploration and future deep-space missions.

The event will be livestreamed on the Canadian Space Agency’s official YouTube channel, allowing people across the country and around the world to watch this historic interaction. Officials have encouraged media and the public to follow the broadcast as it represents a unique moment of connection between Earth and space.

Overall, the live conversation between Prime Minister Mark Carney and astronaut Jeremy Hansen is expected to celebrate scientific achievement, international cooperation, and inspire the next generation of explorers.
