Canada Introduces ‘30 Days or Free’ Passport Processing Guarantee

However, the new rule does not apply to all cases. Some administrative services, such as replacements or certified copies, are not included. Urgent and express applications also follow different timelines, and refunds for delays in those cases are handled under existing rules. In addition, applications affected by special or unexpected situations may not qualify for the refund.

Normally, passport processing in Canada takes between 10 and 20 business days, depending on how and where the application is submitted. With this new guarantee, the government is sending a clear message that delays will not be taken lightly, and applicants will be compensated if service standards are not met.
