Cameroon grabbed a hard-fought 1-0 win against Gabon in an electrifying Group F kickoff at the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. The decisive goal came in the sixth minute when a striker based in Spain deftly placed a shot past Gabonese goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba, assisted perfectly by Bryan Mbeumo. A VAR review later confirmed the goal.

With this victory, Cameroon sits alongside reigning champions Ivory Coast at the top of Group F, both teams having played their opening matches in the tournament.

As five-time AFCON champions and the continent's most frequent World Cup participants, Cameroon has faced recent trials, including failing to qualify for the last World Cup and a coaching change shortly before the tournament. Notably, goalkeeper Andre Onana was not included in the squad.

Despite these obstacles, Cameroon began the match with vigor, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Mbeumo was particularly impactful, setting up various chances. Junior Tchamadeu just missed an early chance in the second half, and substitute Frank Magri nearly scored, hitting the crossbar with a header near the match's conclusion.

Gabon took the field without star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who had only recently recuperated from a thigh injury. Both Aubameyang and Mario Lemina entered the match in the 32nd minute in an effort to shift momentum. Denis Bouanga had several attempts but couldn't make a lasting impression, while Aubameyang struggled to find his rhythm during his limited playtime.
