A 37-year-old Calgary man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after the bodies of his two young children were discovered inside a vehicle near a police station in northwest Calgary. The tragic incident shocked the local community and triggered a major police investigation.

According to Calgary police, officers found the bodies of the children, a three-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, on Thursday morning after concerns were raised about their safety. Authorities said the children were located inside a vehicle parked only a short distance from the Calgary Police Service’s District 7 office.

Police later arrested the children’s father, who now faces two first-degree murder charges. Investigators have not publicly released the names of the accused or the children in order to protect the identity of the victims and because of a publication ban related to the case.

Calgary police described the investigation as extremely serious and emotionally difficult for officers involved. Authorities said homicide investigators, forensic teams, and victim support services were all assigned to the case as detectives worked to understand exactly what happened before the children were found dead.

Officials confirmed that emergency responders attempted to assist the children, but both were pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet released details about the cause of death, saying autopsies are expected to provide more information in the coming days.

The deaths have deeply affected residents across Calgary, with many expressing sadness and shock over the loss of two young lives. Community members gathered online to share condolences and support for extended family members impacted by the tragedy.

Investigators believe the incident was isolated and said there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Police are continuing to examine evidence, speak with witnesses, and review the events leading up to the deaths. Authorities have asked anyone with relevant information to contact Calgary police or Crime Stoppers.

The accused man is expected to appear in court in Calgary in the coming days. If convicted, first-degree murder charges in Canada carry an automatic life sentence with no possibility of parole for at least 25 years.
