Inter Miami Halts Coach Hunt Following Mascherano's Resignation

David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami CF, has called for patience as the club navigates the unexpected resignation of head coach Javier Mascherano, emphasizing the need to take time before selecting a successor.

Mascherano's departure was announced earlier this week due to personal reasons, shortly after the team drew 2-2 against the New York Red Bulls. This unexpected move reportedly occurred over the weekend, surprising the organization early in the season.

In the interim, sporting director Guillermo Hoyos has stepped in as acting manager. With a record of 3-1-3 and 12 points, Inter Miami's next challenge is against the Colorado Rapids.

Beckham shared with CBS Sports that Mascherano's departure was a “challenging” situation for the club, especially given that he led the team to its first MLS Cup title in 2025.

“Mascherano is an amazing individual and a fantastic coach. The squad had great respect for him, but events like this can occur in football,” Beckham stated. “For now, our focus should be on allowing the situation to stabilize before proceeding with the search for a new head coach.”

Mascherano, who is 41, took over in November 2024 after Gerardo Martino's tenure. He notably guided a squad featuring Lionel Messi to significant achievements, including an MLS Cup win, a Leagues Cup finals, and a semifinal finish in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

This position marked Mascherano's inaugural role as a club head coach, following his prior stint with Argentina’s youth teams starting in 2021. Under his guidance, the national youth teams accomplished a Round of 16 finish at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup and reached the quarterfinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Additionally, chief soccer officer Alberto Marrero will temporarily undertake extra responsibilities during this transitional phase for the club.

As Inter Miami navigates this period, the focus will be on maintaining on-field stability while thoughtfully planning the next steps for its coaching staff.
