In a tragic incident on Saturday afternoon, a cargo train collided with a public bus in Bangkok, leading to the death of at least eight individuals and injuries to over 20 others.
Reports from the scene indicate that the crash occurred near an airport rail link station in central Bangkok. Emergency responders from the Erawan Medical Center confirmed the fatalities and transported numerous injured passengers to local hospitals for urgent care.
Social media footage depicted numerous vehicles halted at a railway crossing prior to the incident. A cargo train struck an orange public bus at the front of the queue, causing a catastrophic impact that sent nearby vehicles sprawling along the tracks and forced the bus into a pillar on the expressway.
Following the collision, the bus was engulfed in flames, with several motorcycles and riders thrown onto the roadway due to the force of the crash.
Firefighters and rescue teams arrived promptly, managing to extinguish the blaze. Later images depicted rescue personnel searching through the charred remains of the bus for survivors and additional victims.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the precise factors contributing to this devastating accident, with more updates anticipated as officials carry on with rescue and recovery efforts.
