The Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy is gearing up to host the 8th Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy International Blitz Chess Tournament for Women on April 25, 2026, at their Abu Dhabi location. This exciting event is being organised in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Chess Club & Mind Games.
Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the tournament follows the inspiring directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Its goal is to enhance the involvement of women in mind sports and elevate the status of chess within women's sports.
Participants can expect a thrilling competition structured in the Swiss system format, featuring nine rounds of rapid matches. With competitors hailing from various countries and age brackets, the event promises a rich tapestry of talent. The total prize pool stands at AED 40,000, complemented by special accolades for top players across different categories.
Abdullah Al Tamimi, a representative from the academy, noted that this tournament embodies their vision of promoting chess and enhancing its presence in women’s sports. He elaborated that such prestigious events position the UAE and Abu Dhabi as prime hubs for international sports competitions.
Al Tamimi also emphasized the essential role that these tournaments play in providing players with opportunities to hone their skills, gain invaluable international exposure, and compete at the highest levels.
