Acclaimed actress Anne Hathaway takes on a captivating role as a pop superstar in the eagerly awaited film, Mother Mary. The narrative delves into the poignant and emotional dynamics between two once-close friends.

In her portrayal of “Mother Mary,” Hathaway embodies a celebrated pop icon facing hurdles ahead of a significant comeback performance after a surprising event. In search of support, she travels to England to meet fashion designer Sam Anselm, played by Michaela Coel. Their reunion unfolds at Anselm’s serene countryside studio, where deep-seated emotions resurface after a decade apart.

This reconnection rekindles complex feelings, including anger and nostalgia, while revealing the profound bond they once cherished.

Hathaway disclosed her rigorous preparation for the character, which included up to eight hours of daily dance rehearsals for months. She dedicated a year to honing her singing abilities for the film. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Beyoncé, Hathaway embraced the role with unwavering commitment.

“I aimed to do more than just perform well; I wanted to give it my all,” Hathaway articulated at the London premiere. She expressed an understanding of her character’s battle with fame and self-identity.

Directed and written by David Lowery and produced by A24, the film also includes original music from artists like Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and FKA Twigs. Hathaway delivers seven tracks for the official soundtrack titled Mother Mary: Greatest Hits.
