Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the Selangor Menteri Besar, has alleged that a boat designated for a humanitarian mission to Gaza was sabotaged and sunk prior to its departure. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of international aid flotilla missions linked to the Gaza region.
Originally intended to partake in the humanitarian voyage, Amirudin stated that the boat was allegedly pinpointed and attacked before the mission could occur.
In a briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Amirudin described the event as a deliberate act of sabotage, suggesting possible involvement from entities associated with the Israeli regime, albeit without any concrete evidence publicly available to support these claims.
The Selangor leader also mentioned two purported sabotage incidents associated with the mission, one near Greece and another near Turkey. His remarks followed reports that activists related to a Gaza-bound flotilla were detained but later released by Israeli authorities.
Amirudin noted that 29 Malaysian activists involved in the initiative are anticipated to return home by week's end, with Malaysian humanitarian organisations reportedly en route to welcome them back.
He alleged that some activists experienced physical pressure and mistreatment after being stopped in international waters. Despite these challenges, Amirudin emphasized the humanitarian mission’s dedication to highlighting the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
He affirmed that initiatives to deliver aid and educate the global community about Gaza's conditions will persist, revealing that final confirmation is pending regarding 20 containers of humanitarian assistance anticipated to reach Gaza soon.
The claims of sabotage have sparked broader discussions online regarding the risks associated with humanitarian flotilla missions and the escalating tensions surrounding aid efforts in Gaza.
