Al Ain Farms Group Targets Sugar Reduction in UAE Products

Al Ain Farms Group (AAFG), a leading name in the UAE food and beverage market, has launched an ambitious initiative to significantly reduce added sugars in its products by 10 to 20 percent. This initiative encompasses some of the company’s famed brands, including Al Ain Farms and Marmum Dairy, and aligns with efforts to enhance healthy food options across the UAE.

The effort is in line with Abu Dhabi’s Healthy Living Strategy, a collaborative project between government bodies and private sectors to bolster public health through sustainable measures. The sugar reduction initiative is one of 28 strategic projects designed to elevate the nutritional standard of popular food and drinks while keeping them affordable and tasty.

This commitment was signed in partnership with Healthy Living and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), illustrating a unified approach to bettering nutrition in the food sector. AAFG plans to reformulate a wide array of dairy and beverage offerings to achieve lower sugar content without sacrificing quality or customer satisfaction.

His Excellency Dr Ahmed AlKhazraji, Executive Director of Healthy Living, highlighted the importance of enhancing the nutritional value of commonplace foods as a key method to encourage healthier lifestyles. He stated that making nutritious options easily accessible can profoundly influence public health.

Dr AlKhazraji commended Al Ain Farms Group for its pioneering role in the industry, emphasizing the company’s impact in reinforcing a healthy food environment in the UAE. Initiatives like these foster significant improvements in food standards and encourage greater participation from the industry.

“Al Ain Farms Group is setting a practical benchmark for local manufacturers to contribute positively to public health goals while ensuring consumer choices in quality products,” he remarked.

His Excellency Eng Abdulla Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory at QCC, hailed the organization’s dedication as a vital step toward empowering consumers to make informed choices while advancing food quality throughout the UAE.

AAFG Group CEO Hassan Safi noted that this initiative underscores their ongoing commitment to innovation and nutrition. He affirmed that the reformulation process aims to enhance the nutritional profile of everyday products while maintaining their flavor and quality.

“Our goal is to fuse product innovation with meaningful reformulation, making healthier choices more accessible to all. This follows our previous initiatives, including the launch of no-added-sugar beverage lines, marking another step in responsible food innovation,” Safi emphasized.

AAFG recently unveiled a new lineup of health-oriented products in April 2026, focusing on reformulating household staples like flavored milk, yogurt, and laban available under the Al Ain Farms and Marmum Dairy labels.

The revamped offerings are anticipated to hit store shelves ahead of the Back-to-School season in September 2026, providing families with lower-sugar alternatives during a critical shopping period.

Industry experts view this initiative as a compelling example of how collaboration between governmental entities and food producers can tackle rising concerns about sugar consumption, particularly in children. The necessity to curb sugar intake has been emphasized by health professionals to mitigate obesity, diabetes, and other chronic diseases.

AAFG's commitment reinforces the increasing focus on food reformulation in the UAE and showcases the private sector's role in supporting national health objectives. With ongoing collaborations with industry stakeholders, Healthy Living aspires to further enhance food environments, ensuring healthier options are available throughout communities within the emirate and beyond.
