The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently celebrated the inaugural flight of Air Arabia’s long-awaited direct route from Sharjah, UAE, to Krabi, Thailand. This connection is set to enhance tourism from the Middle East to southern Thailand, particularly during the anticipated holiday season. With flights commencing on November 28, 2025, travelers from the Middle East and North Africa will enjoy convenient access to various Thai destinations beyond just Bangkok and popular hotspots like Phuket.
Air Arabia's new service will add approximately 5,220 additional seats each month, creating numerous opportunities for visitors to discover Thailand’s stunning beaches, cultural landmarks, and wellness retreats. The inaugural flight ceremony was attended by officials from TAT, including Sasithorn Kittidhrakul, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior, and Angkul Seelatewakul, Governor of Krabi Province. The launch falls under TAT’s Airline Focus Strategy, which seeks to attract affluent and quality tourists from the Middle East interested in luxury, family, and wellness travel experiences.
The potential of the Middle Eastern tourism market for Thailand is noteworthy. Countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), encompassing UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, have led to an increase in international visitors. From January to November 2025, Thailand welcomed 728,340 tourists from the region, each staying an average of 10 days and spending about 100,000 baht per trip. With the introduction of the Sharjah-Krabi route, TAT anticipates that the total number of Middle Eastern visitors could reach 850,000 by the end of the year.
This new air service will not only accelerate tourism growth but also significantly support Krabi’s local economy. Hotels, dining establishments, wellness centers, and adventure tourism businesses stand to gain from the influx of tourists. Increased visitor numbers will create job opportunities and foster investment, reinforcing TAT’s strategy of prioritizing “Value over Volume” to achieve sustainable economic growth.
The route complements Thailand's commitment to a BCG economy (Bio-Circular-Green), highlighting the importance of sustainable tourism development. By advocating for environmentally and socially responsible travel practices, Thailand aims to maintain its status as a top-tier global travel destination. The new flight from Sharjah to Krabi showcases confidence in Thailand's robust tourism infrastructure and high service standards, catering to international travelers.
By directly connecting the Middle East to southern Thailand, this route enhances the country's appeal as a regional hub for quality tourism. It diversifies Thailand’s tourism offerings and strengthens its commitment to attracting high-value travelers from the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. The launch of this air corridor is expected to further bolster Thailand’s economy, promote local businesses, and champion sustainable tourism practices that balance ecological, social, and economic aspects.
In summary, Air Arabia's direct flight from Sharjah to Krabi represents a significant milestone in Thailand's tourism landscape. It not only improves convenience for tourists but also reinforces the local economy while positioning Thailand as a premier destination for luxury, wellness, and family-oriented travel from the Middle East. TAT's strategy to attract quality tourists promises to ensure sustainable and responsible growth in the tourism sector, benefitting both visitors and local communities.
