Abu Dhabi Revamps 2026 Fishing Regulations, Greenlights Badah Catch

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed local authorities in Abu Dhabi to implement two new ministerial decisions that revise the fishing regulations set for 2026.

These regulations, established by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in partnership with local agencies, aim to harmonize marine conservation efforts with food security, all while bolstering the fishing community.

Ministerial Decision No. (74) abolishes a previous guideline that restricted the capture and sale of selected fish species during their breeding period. This change facilitates a modernized and adaptable regulatory framework informed by current data.

Additionally, Ministerial Decision No. (75) grants a temporary allowance for the fishing and selling of Longtail Silver Biddy, known locally as Badah, in Abu Dhabi waters exclusively for the remainder of 2026.

Officials emphasized that this is a temporary measure, subject to review based on scientific assessments to ensure the sustainability of fish populations.

These regulatory changes respond to favorable indicators regarding fish stocks in the emirate’s waters, underpinned by scientific research and empirical evidence. It aims to enhance the availability of fish in local markets while supporting those working in the fishing industry.

The regulatory body will persist in overseeing adherence to fishing laws, urging fishermen and stakeholders to adhere to the updated guidelines for preserving Abu Dhabi's marine resources moving forward.
