First Women's Mental Health Clinic Opens in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi has made a significant advancement in women's mental healthcare with the inauguration of its first Women’s Mental Health Clinic at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC). This pioneering clinic, established through the collaboration of SAKINA and SEHA at SSMC, is dedicated to providing culturally sensitive support for women of all ages.

Situated on Level 4 of Tower A in SSMC, the clinic operates Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. It ensures that women can easily access psychological services, exclusively handled by a female team of psychiatrists and psychologists—an approach fostering trust and confidentiality for those seeking help.

Adopting a holistic, patient-focused approach, the clinic serves various mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress. Patients can receive comprehensive psychological assessments, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), personalized treatment plans, and regular follow-ups. In addition to individual therapy, the clinic also facilitates group therapy, peer-support activities, and programs aimed at reducing social isolation and enhancing emotional resilience.

A key focus of the clinic is on perinatal and postnatal mental health. Assessments now form part of routine antenatal care, enabling early detection of women at risk during pregnancy. The clinic also provides dedicated postnatal support to assist new mothers in managing emotional challenges that are frequently overlooked.

This initiative aligns with the UAE's commitment to boosting community well-being by ensuring women have access to respectful and comprehensive mental health services. By merging clinical care with community-focused initiatives, the clinic aspires to foster enduring support networks, ensuring women do not face their mental health challenges in isolation.

With this establishment, Abu Dhabi reinforces its dedication to enhancing mental health accessibility, creating a safe environment for women to express and address their emotional, psychological, and social needs.
