ADU Paves the Way for Future Inclusion Leaders

Post by : Bianca Hayes

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has successfully concluded its Inclusion Advocates of Tomorrow programme, a significant initiative aimed at empowering students with essential knowledge and tools to promote accessibility and social inclusion. Organized by ADU Innovate, this programme collaborated with the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, and Key2Enable to integrate innovation into practical inclusive educational methods.

Throughout the year, over 100 ADU students engaged in a comprehensive journey that combined theoretical study with real-world application. They delved into inclusive design principles, accessibility standards, and assistive technology, participating in field visits to the Zayed Authority where they observed these tools in educational contexts.

The programme also offered hands-on training with assistive tools such as adaptive keyboards and bespoke learning software from Key2Enable, allowing students to grasp and tackle the challenges encountered by People of Determination. At the same time, the Community Volunteering Activation Program (CVAP) by Ma’an involved students in efforts that advance inclusion within society, helping them realize the power of collaborative impact.

ADU’s initiative not only promotes inclusive innovation but also fortifies the university’s dedication to nurturing environments where every ability is recognized. Graduates from this programme are now more adept at formulating solutions that eliminate obstacles, thereby enhancing both education and community spaces for greater accessibility and fairness.

Through initiatives like these, Abu Dhabi University reaffirms its position as a hub for inclusion and innovation, inspiring prospective leaders to advocate for accessibility, compassion, and social advancement in every area of life.
