The Abu Dhabi Pension Fund (ADPF) has initiated a progressive voluntary pension registration scheme tailored specifically for UAE Nationals. This initiative is focused on supporting women who prioritize family care and postgraduate students pursuing advanced degrees either domestically or internationally.
Launched under Law No. (18) of 2023, this scheme aligns with the UAE’s “Year of the Family” initiatives and underscores the Abu Dhabi Government's commitment to enhancing family stability, empowering women, and assisting citizens in fulfilling their educational aspirations while safeguarding their pension entitlements.
As outlined by ADPF, the voluntary scheme consists of two primary categories. The first is aimed at mothers who elect to leave the workforce to attend to their families, provided they have prior registration with the Fund. The second category addresses postgraduate students enrolled in Master’s programs, PhDs, or professional fellowships, regardless of whether they are studying within the UAE or overseas.
The Fund has made it clear that postgraduate students are eligible to apply, even if they have not been previously registered with ADPF, as long as they meet the established legal criteria.
Eligibility requires applicants to be UAE Nationals and not enrolled as insured employees with any employer under the Abu Dhabi pension framework at the time of their application.
ADPF noted that contribution amounts will differ based on the applicant's situation. Those with prior registrations will continue contributing according to their last pensionable salary. New registrants can select from ten salary brackets, ranging from AED 12,750 to AED 100,000 and can switch their selected salary bracket annually in accordance with approved guidelines.
While voluntary participants can withdraw their registration at their discretion, it will automatically conclude if the individual gains employment with a company covered by the Fund, completes their studies, or misses contribution payments for six months consecutively.
ADPF reassured that citizens may reapply if they still satisfy all eligibility criteria after withdrawal. The pension contribution periods will be computed based on actual payments made during the active registration term.
It was emphasized by the Fund that individuals enrolled in the voluntary scheme will enjoy the same insurance benefits and pension rights as those employed in the private sector and registered with ADPF.
Eligible citizens can apply through the TAMM digital platform, and ADPF encourages the community to follow its official social media accounts for additional details on eligibility, benefits, and the application procedure.
His Excellency Khalaf Al Hammadi remarked that the pension system in Abu Dhabi is structured to assist citizens through various phases of life, encompassing education, employment, and family commitments.
He further added that this new scheme addresses the genuine challenges faced by numerous citizens, particularly those involved in higher education or childcare, enabling them to bolster their pension benefits without interruption.
