Doctor Trained at AIIMS Reveals 8 Daily Habits for a Healthier Gut

Post by : Sean Carter

Maintaining good gut health is crucial for overall well-being, and experts find it significantly influenced by our daily habits. Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a prominent gastroenterologist with training from AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford, shared effective strategies in a recent post on November 15. With a focus on simple daily practices, he emphasizes eight habits that promote better digestion and health.

According to Dr. Sethi, gut health extends beyond dietary choices; it’s also about our morning routines, physical activity, and stress management. He proposes that establishing beneficial habits in 2025 can pave the way for a healthier 2026.

His first tip is to refrain from checking your phone immediately upon waking. He points out that cortisol levels are already elevated in the mornings, and engaging with your phone can boost stress levels further. Instead, starting the day by reflecting on something you’re thankful for helps calm the mind and enhances digestive health. He also cautions against using phones in the restroom, as it fosters unhealthy practices and unnecessary stress.

The second recommendation is to bask in morning sunlight for at least ten minutes. This practice resets your body’s internal clock, elevates mood, bolsters vitamin D production, and supports digestive functioning.

He also encourages taking a ten-minute walk post-meal. This practice aids digestion, minimizes gas and bloating, and helps maintain balanced blood sugar levels. A brief walk can significantly enhance how your body reacts after eating.

Additionally, Dr. Sethi advises incorporating fermented foods into your diet three times weekly. Foods like yogurt, kefir, kimchi, and kanji promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, assisting digestion naturally and lessening the reliance on probiotic supplements.

Dr. Sethi asserts that consistent small habits lead to significant, lasting health improvements. He encourages individuals to prioritize simple practices over complex diets and strict regimens. A healthy gut contributes to enhanced energy, greater immunity, and a more serene mind.

His message is straightforward: good health is rooted in the small daily choices we make. By embracing mindful mornings, exposure to sunlight, physical activity, and nourishing foods, anyone can cultivate a healthier gut and an enriched life.
