16 US Military Aircraft Destroyed in Iran War, Losses Mount

Post by : Raina Carter

At least 16 US military aircraft have been destroyed since the start of the Iran war, showing the rising risks in the ongoing conflict. Reports say that the losses include 10 Reaper drones and several other aircraft that were either damaged in attacks or lost in accidents during operations in the region.

Some of the most serious losses happened due to accidents. Three US F-15 fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by friendly fire in Kuwait. In another tragic incident, a KC-135 tanker aircraft was destroyed during a refueling operation, killing all six crew members on board. These incidents highlight the dangers of high-speed military operations, even without direct enemy fire.

Iranian attacks have also caused damage. Five KC-135 tanker planes were hit by an Iranian missile strike while parked at an airfield in Saudi Arabia. While these aircraft were not destroyed, they were badly damaged and taken out of action. In addition, several Reaper drones were shot down by Iranian air defense systems, mostly while flying over high-risk areas.

One of the drones was destroyed by a ballistic missile while stationed at an airfield in Jordan. Others were brought down during missions. These drones are designed to operate in dangerous zones because they do not carry pilots and are cheaper to replace than manned aircraft.

Experts say the higher number of losses may be linked to the scale of the war. The United States has carried out a large number of airstrikes in a short time, even more than during the early days of the Gulf War. This increase in operations means more flights, which raises the chances of both combat losses and accidents.

Despite early strikes targeting Iran’s air defenses, the US has not fully gained control of the skies. Officials say the US currently has only limited air superiority in certain areas. In one recent incident, an advanced F-35 fighter jet was hit by suspected Iranian fire but managed to land safely, with the pilot reported to be in stable condition.

Military experts say such accidents and losses are not unusual during intense and fast-moving conflicts. High pressure, frequent missions, and complex operations can increase the risk of mistakes and technical failures.

As the Iran war enters its third week, Iran continues to launch attacks across the region, although US officials say the number of strikes has reduced in recent days. At the same time, tensions remain high, especially after Iran targeted key energy facilities in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The rising number of US military aircraft destroyed in the Iran war highlights the growing challenges in the conflict. It also shows how difficult it is to maintain control in such a complex and dangerous situation.
