UAE and South Korea Collaborate on Groundbreaking AI Data Campus

In a bold step toward technological innovation, South Korea has forged a partnership with the United Arab Emirates to establish a groundbreaking artificial intelligence data campus, Stargate UAE, in the Gulf region. This announcement was made during President Lee Jae Myung's visit to the UAE for an important summit.

The Stargate UAE initiative aims to construct one of the world's largest AI data center complexes, which will be situated outside of the United States. This is a major leap in international tech partnerships, particularly because of previous U.S. restrictions on advanced technology transfers to the UAE due to its alliances with China.

The first phase will see the creation of a facility with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, developed by the UAE's state-backed enterprise, G42. The initiative will engage top global technology firms, including OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco Systems, and Japan’s SoftBank Group. Experts believe this collaboration could transform the UAE into a pivotal center for AI research and data management, drawing investment and global talent.

Industry experts highlight that this partnership underscores a growing trend where nations aim to boost their technological independence while encouraging international collaboration in AI. The Stargate project is poised to enhance the UAE’s digital infrastructure, making it capable of hosting extensive AI applications, from smart city developments to advanced computational research.

With construction anticipated to start shortly, the Stargate UAE campus has the potential to transform the AI data processing landscape in the Middle East, connecting technological skills across Asia, the Gulf, and the broader global tech environment.
