Trump Advocates for National AI Regulation to Secure U.S. Dominance

Former President Donald Trump took to social media on Tuesday to advocate for a national standard concerning artificial intelligence, cautioning that varied state regulations could hinder progress.

He stated, “The varied regulations of the States pose a significant threat to our Growth Engine. We absolutely NEED a single Federal Standard rather than a confused landscape of 50 State Regulatory Schemes.” Trump expressed that without cohesive rules, the U.S. risks falling behind, particularly against competitors like China in the critical field of AI.

Trump proposed that Congress could establish this federal standard through either a new bill or by integrating it into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), stating, “Include it in the NDAA, or enact a distinct Bill, and America will stand unchallenged.”

This initiative comes as concerns mount over AI’s swift advancement. Experts have raised alarms about AI's potential disruption of elections, increase in fraud, and implications for employment. Trump’s push reflects an intention to unify regulatory strategies, aiming to uphold America’s technological leadership while addressing fears of regulatory disarray.

By advocating for a national standard, Trump envisions a stable regulatory framework that promotes innovation and propels AI advancement in the U.S., helping to secure its position in the competitive tech arena.
