Tragic Loss: Indian Student Killed in the UK, Family Calls for Government Assistance

A tragic event has sent shockwaves through Haryana and among Indian families with children abroad. Vijay Kumar Sheoran, a 30-year-old student, was fatally stabbed in Worcester, United Kingdom. His untimely demise has plunged his family into profound grief, prompting them to urgently seek assistance from the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the repatriation of his body to India. Hailing from Jagrambass village in Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana, Vijay was known in his community as a humble, diligent young man with big aspirations. Earlier this year, he relocated to the UK to pursue education at the University of the West of England in Bristol, having left a government job two years prior to dedicate himself fully to academics and career development.

According to West Mercia Police, the tragedy occurred on November 25 around 4:15 AM when officers were alerted to an injured man on Barbourne Road in Worcester. Upon arrival, they discovered Vijay suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries later that day, causing widespread sorrow in both India and the UK.

The authorities are treating this as a murder investigation, with five suspects arrested in connection with the incident. Although currently out on bail, the inquiry continues. The police have urged anyone with information about the attack to come forward, seeking clarity on the events of that night.

In Haryana, Vijay’s family is grappling with immense sorrow. His elder brother, Ravi Kumar, has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs for immediate assistance, expressing that they are overwhelmed by foreign legalities, bureaucracy, and the financial burden of bringing Vijay's body home. The family is determined to carry out his last rites according to their customs, which they cannot accomplish without government support.

Ravi Kumar voiced the family’s desperation, stating, “We appeal to the government for help so we can hold his last rites here.” Their plight reflects the emotional turmoil combined with the daunting paperwork and legal challenges from abroad.
