On Saturday, Mitchell Starc showcased his all-around capabilities, significantly impacting the Ashes series with a remarkable performance. The Australian fast bowler stunned England by scoring 77 runs, marking his highest Test innings since 2016. His contribution led Australia to a total of 511, establishing a formidable 177-run lead over England’s 334 in the Gabba's day-night Test.

This match was historic, highlighting that all 11 Australian players achieved double figures, a feat accomplished only three times in nearly 150 years of Test cricket. In addition to Starc, significant scores came from Jake Weatherald (72), Marnus Labuschagne (65), Steve Smith (61), and Alex Carey (63), enabling Australia to assert their dominance throughout Day 3.

As England commenced their second innings in challenging light, they faced serious pressure despite Starc failing to take a wicket in his initial over for the first time this series. England concluded the middle session at 45 without losing a wicket, with Zak Crawley at 26 and Ben Duckett at 13. Starc continues to lead the bowling charts for the series with 16 wickets, including a 10-wicket haul in Perth's first Test.

On Day 3, Australia aimed for a patient batting approach to chip away at England’s resolve, adding 133 runs for the last four wickets after starting at 378-6. Starc’s early arrival at the crease played a pivotal role in establishing a record Gabba partnership of 75 runs with Scott Boland for the ninth wicket.

England's bowlers faced difficulties throughout the day, with Brydon Carse conceding 152 runs for four wickets, and both Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson feeling the strain. Starc unleashed powerful shots to remain Australia’s top scorer before eventually being dismissed for 77.

Starc’s innings further solidified Australia’s advantage in the match while underscoring his vital role in the Ashes series, highlighting his prowess as both a bowler and lower-order batsman. His performance not only set a new benchmark against England but also showcased his ability to thrive under pressure.
