Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – November 6, 2025: In a luminous evening at the Museum of Tomorrow, the 2025 Earthshot Prize winners were revealed, marking another chapter in Prince William’s decade-long effort to accelerate practical solutions for the planet. Launched in 2020, the Earthshot Prize awards each winner £1 million to scale promising efforts that restore nature, curb pollution and tackle climate risks.
Prince William described the laureates as a source of hope and proof that change can be driven by bold ideas and persistence. The ceremony drew a vibrant mix of figures from sport, music and politics — including Brazilian football icon Cafu, Olympic star Rebeca Andrade, former F1 racer Sebastian Vettel, and performances by Kylie Minogue and Shawn Mendes. British leaders attending included Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Earthshot Prize 2025 Winners:
Protect and Restore Nature: re.green (Brazil) focuses on conserving the Atlantic Forest through approaches that combine biological protection with sustainable funding models for long-term stewardship.
Clean Our Air: Bogotá, Colombia showcased a package of public policies — from low-emission zones to large-scale urban greening — that have driven measurable improvements in air quality.
Revive Our Oceans: The High Seas Treaty, entering into force in January 2026, establishes a global framework to protect marine biodiversity and expand international cooperation for ocean stewardship.
Build a Waste-Free World: Lagos Fashion Week (Nigeria) is reshaping the apparel sector by requiring designers to adopt circular, low-waste practices, cutting waste across the supply chain.
Fix Our Climate: Friendship (Bangladesh) supports climate-vulnerable communities with integrated programs in health, education and disaster readiness to reduce the human toll of a warming world.
Thiago Picolo, re.green’s chief executive, said the award provides vital recognition and opens doors to conversations with banks, corporations and investors — a step he called essential to scale their conservation work.
Christiana Figueres, chair of the Earthshot Prize board, framed the winners as architects of a lasting global legacy and pointed to their 2030 ambitions as evidence that collective action is growing stronger.
During a five-day stay in Brazil, Prince William visited the Christ the Redeemer statue, echoing a visit by his mother, Princess Diana, and focused on hands-on conservation, from mangrove work on Paquetá Island to tree planting projects. He is scheduled to continue his environmental advocacy at COP30 in Belém later this week.
The 2025 Earthshot Prize highlights the importance of international collaboration and practical innovation — from rainforest protection to ocean governance — showing that measurable progress is possible when ideas are funded and communities are supported.
