The Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has initiated a dedicated training initiative focused on International Humanitarian Law, aiming to bolster the expertise of humanitarian workers across the GCC. This two-day program, executed in collaboration with the Secretariat General of GCC States, unites members from Red Crescent societies, OCO personnel, and representatives from various government bodies.
The goal is to raise awareness about fundamental humanitarian law principles and to enhance the skills of those engaged in humanitarian missions. It emphasizes best practices for delivering relief aid, safeguarding civilians, and effectively responding to disasters and other emergency situations.
On the first day of the event, participants engaged in panel discussions and hands-on exercises designed to illustrate how to implement humanitarian operations in accordance with international regulations.
Badr bin Mohammed Al Zaabi, Acting CEO of OCO, remarked that this program epitomizes the organization’s dedication to fostering regional and global partnerships in humanitarian efforts. He underlined that International Humanitarian Law is vital for ensuring protections for individuals caught in crises and conflicts.
Al Zaabi further noted that coordinated actions among GCC nations are crucial for boosting the preparedness of humanitarian organizations. This program aims to equip personnel to react swiftly and efficiently while upholding the standards set by international law.
Through such endeavors, OCO aspires to enhance the expertise and readiness of humanitarian teams, ensuring proficient and ethical aid delivery throughout the region, and reinforcing the significance of international legal standards in all emergency responses.
