Indian Stock Market Set for Uncertain Opening with Bihar Results Looming

Post by : Bianca Hayes

The Indian stock market is anticipated to open hesitantly this Friday, mirroring a sharp downturn in international markets. Investors are preparing for increased volatility as they await the Bihar election results, which are being scrutinized for their potential influence on market sentiment.

Preliminary data from the GIFT Nifty indicates a soft opening, trading around 25,844, reflecting a deficit of nearly 110 points from the prior Nifty futures closing. In Thursday's session, the market ended mostly steady, with the Sensex edging up just 12 points to 84,478, while the Nifty 50 closed a mere 3 points higher at 25,879, following profit booking at high levels.

Analyzing the Sensex

Following a recent upward trend, the Sensex has experienced profit-taking near resistance levels. Analysts note that the 20-day Simple Moving Average situated at 84,200 is a critical support benchmark. If the index maintains above this level, the short-term outlook may remain optimistic. Breaking past 85,000 could speed gains towards 85,300, while a dip below 84,200 might bring the market to test levels of 84,000–83,700.

Nifty 50 Insights

Nifty 50 has shown indecision on its daily chart, forming a doji-like candle with extended shadows, indicative of ongoing market fluctuations. Near-term support is projected between 25,750–25,700, with resistance around 26,000. Analysts suggest that a significant breakthrough above 26,000 may prompt a new rally towards 26,300. Conversely, a dip below 25,700 could provoke short-term profit taking.

Performance of Bank Nifty

The Bank Nifty index held a bullish position, closing at 58,381, with a peak session high of 58,615. Key support is identified at 58,000, whereas resistance is projected around 58,500–58,600. Ongoing buying from major banks bolsters the bullish momentum; however, slipping below 58,000 may lead to a temporary consolidation.

In the face of global market pressure and uncertainty surrounding the Bihar election results, traders are expected to proceed with caution. The broader market remains in a consolidation phase, presenting risks and opportunities for investors vigilant on support and resistance dynamics.
