Kharkiv, the second-largest city in Ukraine, suffered a tragic upheaval on Sunday as Russian forces unleashed a significant drone attack, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to many others. The city now stands in ruins, with fear palpable among its residents.
Mayor Ihor Terekhov labeled the scene chaotic via the Telegram messaging platform, underscoring the extensive devastation throughout the city. One victim's body was discovered beneath rubble, underscoring the human cost of this aggression. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov noted that 12 others were injured, including two children aged 11 and 12.
The assault comprised 15 distinct strikes across six neighborhoods in northeastern Kharkiv. This area, merely 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the Russian border, has faced a series of attacks since the onset of the war but has managed to resist encroachment.
The violence extended beyond Kharkiv’s borders, with the Dnipropetrovsk region witnessing a Russian strike on Marhanets, leading to two fatalities—a grim reality that amplifies the surrounding fear.
Witnesses recounted scenes of panic as emergency responders rushed to assist the injured. Many families are now seeking refuge as officials evaluate the extensive damage inflicted by the continuous drone offensives.
These strikes occur within an ongoing conflict exceeding three and a half years, regularly targeting cities near the border and challenging the resilience of both communities and local services.
