Lumo Introduces Luxury Autonomous Robotaxi Fleet in Abu Dhabi

Lumo, an innovative taxi service in the UAE, has unveiled a premium robotaxi fleet aimed at Abu Dhabi's market. This significant initiative is in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and Momenta, leveraging Lumo's expertise in local operations. The robotaxis utilize Momenta’s sophisticated L4 autonomous driving technology and are based on the state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz S-Class, marking the debut of a luxury robotaxi model that taps into mass-produced premium vehicle standards.

The company aims to kick off commercial operations in Abu Dhabi next year, with plans to extend the robotaxi services to additional global markets afterward. This alliance seeks to merge renowned engineering with cutting-edge AI and robust operational skills, setting the stage for the next wave of intelligent transport solutions.

Faisal Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Bannai, who advises the UAE President on Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs, remarked that the UAE is uniquely positioned to innovate future mobility solutions. He commended the country's clear vision and rapid advancements in technology, noting that this partnership embodies a blend of the highest engineering standards and autonomous intelligence within a single ecosystem.

Joerg Burzer, CTO of Mercedes-Benz, mentioned that this collaboration is reshaping global mobility standards by producing luxury robotaxis that prioritize safety, comfort, and elegance. He emphasized the ambition to establish a new benchmark in intelligent transportation on a global scale.

Momenta CEO Xudong Cao highlighted that the partnership combines Mercedes-Benz's rich engineering legacy with Momenta's AI prowess and Lumo's operational excellence. According to him, the robotaxi service, driven by Momenta’s R6 reinforcement learning model, is designed to deliver a safe, high-quality, and intelligent travel experience for riders in the UAE and beyond.
