Khalifa University of Science and Technology has formalized a partnership with Guangzhou Baiyun Electric Equipment Co., Ltd. (BYE) from China through a newly signed memorandum of understanding. This collaboration aims to develop innovative clean energy and electrification technologies, centered around the establishment of a joint innovation laboratory tailored to meet the power sector's needs in the GCC region.
The agreement was executed by Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, alongside Dezhao Hu, Chairman of BYE. The focus will encompass areas such as renewable energy integration, energy storage solutions, advanced power electronics, hybrid AC/DC transmission methods, transportation electrification, green hydrogen technologies, and AI-driven power systems. Additionally, efforts will be made to enhance data center integrations and devise solutions that cater to the GCC's escalating energy requirements.
The partnership will also facilitate student internships, technical training, and collaborative seminars that link industry professionals with academic researchers. Khalifa University’s Advanced Power and Energy Centre (APEC) will serve as the primary research hub for BYE in the UAE. APEC’s laboratories will host collaborative research projects with BYE, providing APEC’s researchers access to BYE’s industrial facilities to foster deeper cooperation.
Professor Al Hajri noted that this partnership underscores the university’s dedication to the UAE’s sustainable future and energy transition objectives. He emphasized that combining BYE’s expertise in products with APEC’s research prowess will expedite technology development for the GCC and beyond. Dezhao Hu remarked that this agreement represents a significant milestone for BYE, enhancing their regional presence and driving innovation.
As an integral component of the agreement, Khalifa University students will benefit from summer internships and paid positions at BYE’s industrial and R&D centers. This program aims to facilitate robust knowledge exchange and develop future specialists equipped for the evolving energy sector. Furthermore, the MoU includes a yearly initiative to train at least five specialized professionals, alongside technical talks and seminars for industry stakeholders.
This collaboration is poised to advance research in renewable energy, cutting-edge grid systems, and the electrification technologies of tomorrow, aligning with the UAE’s sustainability ambitions.
