Jaishankar Highlights Reimagined Ties During Putin's India Visit

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar characterized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent two-day trip to India as a pivotal moment for redefining and fortifying the enduring partnership between New Delhi and Moscow. In conversation with journalist Rahul Kanwal, Jaishankar underscored the enduring nature of India-Russia relations, noting that while other international partnerships have experienced fluctuations, the diplomatic and strategic engagement between India and Russia has remained robust.

Jaishankar pointed out that this visit aimed at broadening previously unexplored facets of their bilateral relationship. Noteworthy outcomes included the signing of a mobility agreement, talks on a joint fertilizer venture, and an expanded focus on cooperative efforts between the two nations.

Discussing trade, Jaishankar reiterated that India’s trade with the United States is crucial in strategic dialogues in Washington. He affirmed India's pursuit of balanced trade agreements that safeguard the interests of workers, farmers, and the middle class while striving for equitable negotiation terms.

Regarding relations with China, Jaishankar referenced the stability in border regions following the October 24 summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He noted that patrolling patterns have resumed, contributing to a foundation of peace and tranquillity necessary for healthy bilateral interactions.

Additionally, Jaishankar tackled challenges from Pakistan, stating that many of India’s security worries, including terrorism and training camps, are rooted in the Pakistani army's policies and actions. He reiterated India’s commitment to democratic processes in its neighboring countries and expressed positive expectations for balanced regional relations.

The Foreign Minister’s comments reflect India’s pragmatic diplomatic approach, which seeks to balance regional security issues, global trade interests, and the pursuit of stable international alliances. His statements underscore India’s ongoing endeavors to fortify connections with major global players like Russia, the United States, and China while taking a measured stance towards regional challenges.
