Apple's iPhone 18 Series to Introduce 24MP Selfie Camera

According to a research note from JP Morgan cited by MacRumors, Apple is gearing up for a significant enhancement of the front cameras in the iPhone 18 lineup. The report indicates that all flagship models—iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air 2, and the anticipated foldable iPhone—will be equipped with a 24-megapixel front camera. This is a remarkable upgrade over the 18-megapixel sensors used in the previous iPhone 17 series.

This upgrade signals a substantial advancement in Apple’s selfie technology, promising clearer images, better performance in low-light conditions, and greater detail in portrait shots. This move follows the introduction of an 18-megapixel sensor and the “Center Stage” feature in the iPhone 17 series, which utilizes a wider field to keep subjects centered in video calls.

Notably, the foldable iPhone, likely named the iPhone 18 Fold, may incorporate Apple’s first under-display front camera with a 24-megapixel lens, allowing a flawless inner display devoid of cut-outs—something Apple has yet to achieve with its products. This foldable device is expected to follow a book-style design comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

While the higher-end models will benefit from these camera upgrades, the more affordable iPhone 18e and second-gen iPhone 17e are said to maintain a 12-megapixel front camera to keep pricing accessible for everyday users.

Additionally, Apple’s launch schedule may evolve from a single yearly release to two divisions starting in 2026. The premium models, like iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air 2, and the foldable variant, are likely to be introduced in the latter half of 2026, while standard models might debut in spring 2027.
