In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a 22-year-old Indian student named Ajit Singh Chaudhary from Alwar, Rajasthan, has been discovered deceased after almost three weeks of being missing in Russia. He was a student at Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa, where he was pursuing his MBBS degree.

Ajit was last seen on October 19, when he left his hostel to buy milk around 11 a.m. His absence triggered a desperate search by his friends and the local Indian student community, who promptly alerted the authorities.

After an extensive search lasting 19 days, his body was found in a dam near the White River on Thursday. The situation has left his family in shock and has raised urgent calls for a deeper investigation into the circumstances of his passing.

Local officials have disclosed that Ajit’s belongings, including his clothes, shoes, and mobile device, were located near the riverbank shortly after his disappearance, fueling suspicions of possible foul play. However, no official cause of death has yet been confirmed.

Former Union Minister Jitendra Singh expressed his sorrow over the situation, describing it as a “deeply tragic and suspicious incident.” He has urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to facilitate a prompt investigation and assist in the repatriation of Ajit’s remains to India.

“Ajit was a dedicated and promising student. His family made significant sacrifices to send him to Russia. The news of his death has devastated the entire community,” Singh commented in a post on X (previously Twitter).

The issue has also garnered attention from the All India Medical Students’ Association (Foreign Wing), which confirmed that Ajit’s friends at the university identified his body. The university administration has yet to issue an official comment.

Ajit’s family is mourning the loss and anxiously awaiting updates on when his body can be returned to them. The Indian Embassy in Moscow has been notified and is expected to aid in the repatriation process.

This unfortunate incident accentuates the growing safety concerns faced by Indian students abroad, especially in more isolated areas.
