Indian Markets Gain Ground as FII Inflows and Blue-Chip Stocks Propel Recovery

Post by : Bianca Hayes

Mumbai: The Indian equity landscape experienced a notable resurgence on Monday, with both the Sensex and Nifty making a comeback following a string of losses. This uplift stemmed from favorable conditions in Asian markets and a renewed interest in leading blue-chip stocks.

The BSE Sensex surged by 267.74 points, or 0.32%, reaching 83,484.02, while the NSE Nifty climbed 84.90 points, or 0.33%, to 25,577.20 during early trading.

Top Performers Today

Within the Sensex, stocks such as Asian Paints, Bharat Electronics, Larsen & Toubro, Titan, Reliance Industries, Tata Motors, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, ITC, and Bharti Airtel were the notable gainers.

Conversely, shares of Trent Ltd, Power Grid, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC, State Bank of India, Adani Ports, and UltraTech Cement faced selling pressure, causing minor dips in the index.

Encouraging Global Sentiments

Support came from Asian indices, with South Korea's Kospi up by 3%, Japan's Nikkei advancing nearly 1%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng increasing by 0.47%. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Composite Index was slightly down. US markets concluded mostly in the green on Friday, boosting domestic market confidence.

Robust Foreign and Domestic Interest

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were active buyers, pouring in Rs 4,581.34 crore into equities on Friday. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) matched this enthusiasm, contributing Rs 6,674.77 crore, showcasing strong investor conviction in the Indian market.

Commodities Impact Overview

Brent crude oil prices also rose by 0.64%, reaching USD 64.04 per barrel, which exerted slight pressure on energy stocks but did not dampen the overall market optimism.

Despite a slight pullback on Friday where the Sensex dipped by 94.73 points and the Nifty fell by 17.40 points, the markets seem to regain momentum at the start of the week, buoyed by FII support and a solid performance among blue-chip stocks.
