Fatima Bosch Crowned Miss Universe 2025 Amidst Pageant Turmoil

Post by : Mina Carter

In a spectacular yet controversial finale, Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, has been named Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand. The 25-year-old beauty queen's journey to the crown was marred by significant challenges, including a dramatic walkout from a pre-pageant event after an official reprimanded her publicly and threatened her with disqualification for receiving support from fellow contestants.

Just a week later, two judges stepped down from their roles, with allegations that the competition had been rigged. Despite these issues, Bosch triumphed, with Thailand’s Praveenar Singh finishing in second place, while Venezuela, the Philippines, and Cote d’Ivoire secured spots in the top five.

Currently in its 74th year since its inception in 1952, the Miss Universe pageant remains one of the most enduring beauty competitions globally. Analysts suggest that the unresolved controversies highlight cultural and strategic rifts between the event’s Thai and Mexican organizers. This marks Thailand's fourth time hosting, and its contestant was deemed a favorite among fans.

Behind the Curtains

The pageant was organized by Nawat Itsaragrasil, a notable figure in Thai media known for his work with Miss Grand International, while the operational aspects were led by Mexican entrepreneur Raul Rocha. Tensions escalated when Mr. Nawat admonished Bosch during a pre-pageant event for not sharing promotional material, triggering her exit and solidarity among other participants.

The Miss Universe Organisation denounced the encounter as "malicious," with Mr. Rocha intervening remotely to address the situation. Mr. Nawat later issued an apology, citing misunderstandings, and an international panel was dispatched to oversee the competition.

Judging Panel Resignations and Claims

Following these events, judge Omar Harfouch and ex-footballer Claude Makelele resigned, with Harfouch alleging that finalists had been pre-selected. The organization refuted these claims, reassuring the public that the independent Beyond the Crown program runs separately from the main event.

Additional drama unfolded during the preliminary evening gown segment, as Miss Jamaica encountered a fall and required hospital attention, further heightening tensions surrounding the competition.

Leadership Evolution and Inclusivity

The Miss Universe franchise has recently seen notable leadership transitions. Just prior to the pageant, Thai media executive Anne Jakrajutatip resigned as CEO, to be succeeded by Guatemalan diplomat Mario Bucaro. Jakrajutatip's term had been marked by reforms promoting inclusivity, allowing transgender women, mothers, and married women to participate, while also abolishing age restrictions.

Analysts indicate that the bifurcated leadership between Mexico and Thailand has resulted in confusion for fans and contestants, jeopardizing clarity and reputation for the brand.

Looking Ahead for Miss Universe

Despite the decline in broadcast viewership, social media has transformed previous titleholders into influential figures. The Thai contingency is focusing on monetization through live merchandise sales, while Latin American fans still regard contestants as prominent celebrities on television.

Despite numerous controversies, past Miss Universe leaders and titleholders reaffirm that the essence of their mission is to empower women, insisting that Miss Universe remains relevant only if it actively supports and uplifts its contestants.
