The social media platform X, under Elon Musk's ownership, has rolled out an innovative feature for its ‘Following’ timeline, enhancing the visibility of posts from accounts that users follow. This update, launched on November 27, 2025, employs X’s AI chatbot, Grok, to rank posts based on user engagement and interest prediction.
Unlike before, when the Following feed presented posts in chronological order, the new system ensures that users see the most engaging content first. Grok evaluates user interactions to identify posts that are likely to resonate, enabling users to stay connected with favored accounts more efficiently.
Elon Musk shared the news on his X profile, encouraging users to update their apps to take advantage of the new ranked timeline. He reassured that a chronological feed option remains available for those who prefer an unfiltered, time-based view.
Grok, the AI driving this ranking algorithm, stated, “I’m prioritizing your Following feed to present the most captivating posts first based on my predictions of your preferences.” Users can access the chronological feature by selecting the menu on their feed.
To utilize this feature, users must update their X app on both iOS and Android devices and navigate to the Following tab. The Grok-enhanced ranking will automatically highlight posts from followed accounts, ensuring that unrelated content is not introduced into users' feeds.
In tandem with the Grok enhancements, X has also broadened the reach of its verification tool labeled “About This Account.” This tool assists users in verifying the authenticity of profiles amid the rise of AI-generated and bot accounts. Initially limited to a select group within X, this verification feature is now accessible to a wider audience.
The updates aim to enrich the user experience on X, allowing for a more personalized interaction while maintaining the choice for users who prefer traditional chronological feeds.
