In a tragic incident on the main island of Java, a passenger bus crash in Indonesia resulted in the deaths of at least 16 individuals and injuries to 18 others. The accident took place shortly after midnight on Monday.
The bus was en route from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, a renowned historic city, carrying 34 passengers.
While negotiating a curved exit ramp on the Krapyak toll road in the city of Semarang, Central Java, the vehicle lost its balance. It collided forcefully with a concrete barrier, subsequently overturning.
The impact was severe, resulting in some passengers being ejected from their seats, while others were trapped within the bus's wreckage.
Rescue teams and police arrived at the scene approximately 40 minutes post-accident, working diligently to assist the injured and free trapped passengers.
At the location of the crash, six people were declared dead immediately. An additional ten succumbed to their injuries either during transit to hospitals or while receiving medical attention.
The 18 injured individuals were rushed to two local hospitals for treatment.
