Billy Bob Thornton Sets the Record Straight on His Blood Locket with Angelina Jolie

Billy Bob Thornton is once again tackling one of the most notorious stories from his past relationship with Angelina Jolie. In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, he addressed the persistent rumor that they wore vials of each other’s blood— a tale that has transformed into a punchline over the years.

Thornton clarified that the narrative had been exaggerated. “We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them,” he mentioned, highlighting that the gesture was meant to be personal and affectionate, contrary to the strange portrayal by the media.

“That’s a romantic little idea, and that is all that was. But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and this kind of stuff,” he quipped, adding a hint of humor to the conversation.

He also reflected on the depth of their romance, remarking, “Of course, Angelina and I had a great time together. That was one of the greatest times of my life.” He emphasized that the public's view skewed the relationship into something much stranger than it actually was.

Despite their separation, Thornton confirmed that they remain good friends. “We’re still very, very close friends. And it was a really civilized breakup,” he explained, attributing the end of their marriage to lifestyle differences rather than any personal disputes.

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie first crossed paths in 1999 on the set of Pushing Tin. The couple eloped in Las Vegas in 2000 and later planned to adopt Maddox in 2002. They eventually divorced in 2003.

Even after years, the blood vial story lingered. Thornton previously addressed it in 2014 during a discussion at Loyola Marymount University, explaining that Jolie suggested they each place a drop of blood in a small locket kit. “Nothing more dramatic than that,” he asserted back then.

The actor’s recent interview seeks to finally dispel the myths, stating that the gesture was merely a romantic keepsake, far removed from the vampire-like legend the media concocted.
