In a heartbreaking incident early Thursday morning, a three-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a local woman near Smiths Falls. The collision took place shortly after 5:30 a.m. on County Road 29 at the intersection with Kitley South Elmsley Townline Road, as reported by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The victim has been identified as a 61-year-old resident. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Thankfully, the other drivers involved sustained only minor injuries and did not need hospitalization.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and OPP personnel, arrived quickly to manage the situation. Authorities cordoned off the area for a detailed investigation and to assure the safety of passing motorists.
The investigation is being led by the OPP’s Leeds County detachment, which is urging anyone who may have seen the incident or has dashcam footage to step forward to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Drivers are reminded to stay vigilant, particularly in rural areas and during early morning hours when visibility can be poor.
