At the 35th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna, Qatar reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing global collaboration in tackling organized crime, cybercrime, and corruption.
Leading the Qatari delegation, HE Legal Advisor to the Minister of Interior, Major General Dr. Abdullah Yousef Al Mal, underscored the escalating danger posed by transnational organized crime amid persistent conflicts and rising global divides.
In his address, Dr. Al Mal emphasized that robust international cooperation is crucial for sustaining global peace and security while effectively addressing common security threats. He called for intensified multinational efforts to tackle cross-border crimes, cyber threats, and corruption.
Dr. Al Mal also highlighted Qatar’s significant contributions in this area, including its role as the host for the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP11) scheduled for December 2025.
He pointed out that this conference led to the establishment of the “Doha Declaration,” an important agreement focusing on enhancing international cooperation and building capacities to fight corruption.
Further emphasizing Qatar’s cybersecurity initiatives, Dr. Al Mal noted the nation’s active participation in negotiating the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime. He appealed to nations globally to ratify this convention promptly to bolster its implementation and enhance worldwide efforts against cybercrime.
In concluding his remarks, Dr. Al Mal advocated for increased investments in crime prevention and criminal justice systems. He highlighted the necessity of implementing comprehensive strategies that address the socio-economic roots of crime, particularly focusing on empowering youth and investing in their development.
