Islamabad Rawalpindi Ease Security After Talks Stall

Post by : Sophia Matthew

Authorities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have relaxed several security restrictions after planned negotiations between the United States and Iran were cancelled. The move has allowed traffic movement to return to near-normal levels in the twin cities, easing disruptions faced by residents over the past week.

The restrictions had been imposed in anticipation of a second round of diplomatic talks, with authorities deploying over 10,000 security personnel and limiting public movement to manage security and traffic concerns. However, after the talks failed to materialise, officials began lifting curbs and restoring essential services across both cities.

Following the easing of measures, vehicles carrying medicines, food supplies, and other essential goods were allowed to enter the cities without major restrictions. While traffic flow has improved, police have indicated that some routes may still be temporarily diverted if high-level diplomatic activity resumes in the coming days.

The decision to relax restrictions came shortly after Seyed Abbas Araghchi concluded his visit to Pakistan and departed the country. Around the same time, Donald Trump cancelled plans to send American officials to Islamabad for further discussions, creating uncertainty around future diplomatic engagement.

During his visit, Araghchi held meetings with senior Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, where discussions focused on regional tensions and possible pathways to end the conflict. He later described the visit as productive and appreciated Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue.

With restrictions now eased, educational institutions that had shifted to online classes have announced a return to in-person sessions. Despite the relaxation, security forces remain on alert, reflecting continued uncertainty in the region and the possibility of renewed diplomatic activity.

Overall, the situation in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is stabilising, but authorities continue to monitor developments closely as regional tensions persist.
