In an impressive start to their journey in the Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026” qualifiers, the Oman national cricket team clinched a vital 7-run victory against Singapore during Group B action held in Singapore.

This match signifies the beginning of the qualification tournament running from May 31 to June 9, where various Asian teams are vying for limited spots to participate in the upcoming Asian Games set to take place in Japan from September 17 to October 3, 2026.

The triumph not only brightens Oman’s prospects in the group stage but also enhances their goal to secure one of the four qualification spots available for this important continental event.

Next, the team is slated to compete against Bahrain, followed by a critical encounter with Hong Kong, which are vital matches in their quest for qualification.

The tournament format allows the top two teams from each group to progress to the knockout stage, where the final four teams will earn their spots in the cricket competition at the Asian Games.

Oman’s squad consists of a blend of youthful enthusiasm and seasoned experience, featuring players like Sufyan Mahmoud alongside promising talents such as Mohammed Al-Balushi, Zubair Al-Balushi, Issa Al-Balushi, and others.

Guided by coach Sultan Ahmed, with additional support from Parvez Al-Balushi and team manager Saeed Haider Al-Balushi, the focus is on building a resilient and future-ready cricket framework for Oman.

Due to withdrawals from certain teams, including Thailand and South Korea, the qualifiers now feature two groups, altering the competition dynamics.

Oman currently competes in Group B with Singapore, Bahrain, and Hong Kong, while Group A comprises Nepal, China, and Malaysia.

The top four teams emerging from these qualifiers will join the heavyweight cricket nations—including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and host Japan—at the Asian Games cricket tournament.
