Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces Resignation from Congress Amid Trump Discord

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia, previously a close supporter of former President Donald Trump, declared her upcoming resignation from Congress set for January.

In a video lasting over 10 minutes shared online, Greene articulated her reasoning, stating she has “always been an outcast in Washington, D.C., and never truly belonged.” Her announcement follows a well-publicized conflict with Trump, during which she criticized him on various subjects, including the management of files related to Jeffrey Epstein and differing views on foreign policy and healthcare.

Trump responded by branding Greene a “traitor” and “wacky,” suggesting he would support a challenger for her re-election campaign next year.

Despite the tensions, Greene asserted her ongoing loyalty to Trump, insisting that her differing opinions should not be grounds for hostility. “Loyalty should work both ways, and it’s essential for us to vote according to our conscience and represent our constituents effectively, as our title indicates we’re literally ‘representatives,’” she remarked.

During her time in office, Greene emerged as one of the most polarizing figures in Congress, gaining attention for her associations with QAnon theories and connections with extremist individuals. Often at odds with GOP leaders, she enjoyed backing from Trump, who had previously called her “a real WINNER!”

Ultimately, Greene proved herself as a capable legislator, collaborating with then-GOP leader Kevin McCarthy, who later became Speaker of the House. She maintained a significant presence on the right wing of the party until McCarthy’s ousting in 2023.

Her resignation signifies the conclusion of a tumultuous period in Congress, illustrating both the persistent impact and shifting dynamics within the Republican Party in the Trump era.
