Ceasefire Agreement Achieved Between Lebanon and Israel

Post by : Bianca Hayes

In a significant development, Lebanon and Israel have reached a ceasefire agreement following extensive discussions in Washington, as confirmed by a joint statement from the United States late Wednesday.

The ceasefire is contingent upon Hezbollah ceasing all hostile actions and completely pulling back its forces from territories south of the Litani River.

According to the joint statement, both nations have agreed to a US proposal aimed at accelerating the establishment of pilot zones, which will be under the exclusive control of the Lebanese Armed Forces. These areas are intended to be devoid of any non-state armed groups, enhancing security and stability in the region.

Moreover, Lebanon and Israel have pledged to engage in further direct negotiations aimed at fostering trust and addressing outstanding issues.

Political and security discussions are set to reconvene after June 22, with both parties focused on achieving a broader, more comprehensive agreement.

This ceasefire represents a crucial step in alleviating tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border and may set the stage for further diplomatic advancement in the coming weeks.
