India’s Air Chief Marshal AP Singh has confirmed that the Indian Air Force delivered a decisive blow to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, a military retaliation launched after a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians.
The Air Force chief said Indian forces successfully targeted and destroyed key Pakistani assets, including fighter jets, radar systems, and terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Fighter Jets and Aircraft Destroyed
India reportedly shot down four to five Pakistani fighter jets, including US-made F-16s and Chinese-built JF-17s, during intense aerial combat. In a remarkable strike, India also destroyed a large aircraft, possibly an AEW&C plane, marking one of the longest recorded surface-to-air kills at over 300 km.
Precision missile strikes further hit Pakistan’s radar systems, command centres, runways, and hangars, crippling major elements of its military infrastructure. The Air Force also indicated that an American-made C-130 Hercules transport plane may have been targeted.
Air Bases and Facilities Targeted
Operation Sindoor included strikes on multiple Pakistani air bases, including Jacobabad and Bholari, destroying grounded aircraft and damaging operational facilities. Combined with India’s advanced air defence systems, these operations demonstrated India’s ability to defend its territory while striking deep into enemy airspace.
Terror Camps Neutralised
India also targeted nine terror camps linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, groups long associated with cross-border terrorism. These precision strikes were a direct response to the Pahalgam attack, which Indian authorities attribute to Pakistan-backed militants.
Rejection of Pakistani Claims
Air Chief Marshal Singh dismissed Pakistan’s claims of shooting down Indian aircraft, including Rafale jets, describing them as propaganda without evidence. He stressed that Pakistan’s request for a ceasefire was due to the heavy damage inflicted by India’s strikes, not foreign mediation, countering former US President Donald Trump’s claims of personal intervention.
Strategic Significance of Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor lasted nearly 100 hours and showcased India’s ability to conduct large-scale precision strikes while defending against missile and drone threats. The deployment of advanced air defence systems like the Russian-made S-400 played a crucial role in protecting Indian airspace.
The operation sent a strong signal to Pakistan and the international community about India’s military readiness and commitment to counter terrorism. Air Chief Marshal Singh said the success underlined India’s capacity to protect its citizens and conduct deep offensive operations when provoked.
Operation Sindoor represents one of India’s most significant military operations in recent years, highlighting both its offensive and defensive capabilities. The operation reaffirmed India’s stance against cross-border terrorism and demonstrated its ability to respond decisively to provocations.
