A major crash has forced the closure of a key section of Highway 99 north of Squamish, causing heavy traffic disruptions and sending three people to hospital. Authorities confirmed that the highway remains closed in both directions as emergency crews continue their response.
The incident occurred near Mount Garibaldi, with the closure stretching between Alice Lake Road and Daisy Lake Road. According to officials, the crash led to significant damage, prompting a full shutdown of the route to allow emergency teams to safely manage the situation.
Emergency services responded quickly after receiving a call around 3:30 p.m. BC Emergency Health Services deployed two ground ambulances and one air ambulance to the scene. Paramedics treated three individuals at the site before transporting them to hospital. One person was reported to be in serious condition, while the other two were listed as stable.
Local fire crews from Squamish Fire Rescue are actively working to clear the scene and reopen the highway as soon as possible. Air support has also been involved in the emergency response, highlighting the seriousness of the crash. However, officials have not yet provided an estimated time for when the road will reopen.
Traffic in the area has been heavily impacted, with long lines of vehicles reported along the route. Drivers travelling between Squamish and Whistler are being advised to avoid the area and expect significant delays.
