Google has unveiled Gmail Live, a groundbreaking feature that enhances user experience by making the email service more like an interactive assistant. This innovation is powered by Google’s Gemini AI, enabling users to execute queries related to their inbox effortlessly through voice or text commands.
With Gmail Live, users can swiftly inquire about their messages without the hassle of sifting through countless emails. Queries such as, “When is my child’s school event?” or “What hotel did I reserve for Dubai next month?” can be answered directly, as the system searches for pertinent emails and provides concise, spoken or written responses.
This feature aims to streamline email management, tackling the issue of cognitive overload that occurs when users feel inundated by excessive emails, notifications, and tasks.
Building on previous enhancements like AI Inbox, which intelligently organizes emails by summarizing messages, emphasizing key tasks, grouping related conversations, and surfacing urgent items like bills and appointments, Gmail Live takes efficiency a notch higher.
Google describes Gmail Live as functioning like a conversational assistant. It shares similarities with Gemini Live, providing users with a dynamic back-and-forth interaction as the system retrieves information from the user’s emails and associated documents.
Additionally, Google is enhancing AI capabilities across its suite of tools, including Docs, Calendar, Keep, and Drive, although Gmail remains the focal point due to its extensive personal and work-related data.
Reports indicate that Gmail Live is set to debut this summer for mobile users subscribed to Google's AI Pro and Ultra plans. Currently, some features of AI Inbox are available exclusively to premium users in the US, with a broader rollout anticipated in the future.
