The Un Certain Regard category at the Cannes Film Festival saw the Austrian filmmaker Sandra Wollner take home the prestigious award for her heartfelt family drama, Everytime. This honor was announced during the star-studded awards ceremony, praising the film's nuanced narrative and emotional richness.

Regarded as one of the foremost categories outside the main competition, Un Certain Regard has historically been a launchpad for numerous acclaimed international filmmakers.

During her acceptance speech, Wollner emphasized the urgent need for authentic storytelling in cinema, particularly in an age dominated by artificial intelligence. She urged against the pitfalls of creativity that relies on formulaic ideas, highlighting the importance of unique and emotionally resonant narratives.

Critics lauded Everytime for its delicate portrayal of grief and recovery within a family facing the aftermath of a tragic loss. Industry outlet ScreenDaily noted the film’s thoughtful execution and its profound emotional impact on viewers.

The awards ceremony also recognized several diverse productions. Notably, Elephants in The Fog made history as the first Nepali film to receive the jury prize in this category, a moment celebrated by its director Abinash Bikram Shah with the cast and crew.

Additionally, the animated French film Iron Boy was awarded the special jury prize, while the best actress title was shared among Marina de Tavira, Daniela Marin Navarro, and Mariangel Villegas for their roles in Forever Your Maternal Animal.

Bradley Fiomona Dembeasset took home the best actor award for Congo Boy, a compelling tale of a young musician navigating challenges in the Central African Republic.

Experts noted that this year's Un Certain Regard lineup reflects a vibrant tapestry of global cinema, showcasing personal and socially pertinent narratives from filmmakers across continents.
