Dwayne Johnson has disclosed his effort to gain a cameo role in the eagerly awaited sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, expressing a wish to share the screen with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt. Currently celebrated for his performance in The Smashing Machine, Johnson recounted this ambition while discussing his growing attraction to diverse and unexpected roles.
His connection to the film came via Emily Blunt, his co-star in The Smashing Machine, which portrays the tumultuous life of MMA fighter Mark Kerr. While Blunt filmed The Devil Wears Prada 2, Johnson boldly informed her of his desire to participate despite the franchise’s strong association with the high-fashion realm, a departure from his usual action-heavy roles.
Johnson pitched himself for a small yet impactful character, envisioning someone confident, stylish, and rooted in the fashion industry. Blunt humorously confirmed his ambition, stating that “he tried” to be included in the film. Describing the character's flair, Johnson noted the importance of mastering “size 15 heels,” to which Blunt playfully remarked that he looked good, calling him “hot” when in heels.
Despite his enthusiasm and readiness for the challenge, Johnson ultimately didn’t secure a role in the sequel. However, his eagerness allowed him to remain closely connected to the production. While filming in New York City, Blunt frequently shared videos and behind-the-scenes moments from her car before stepping onto the set. Johnson cherished these glimpses, sharing how intense the atmosphere was with throngs of fans gathering, noting the excitement felt akin to “pop star level,” underlining the franchise’s lasting popularity nearly two decades after the original.
Directed by David Frankel, who also directed the renowned 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will follow characters' journeys in a contemporary setting, exploring how the fashion scene has transformed amid social media and changing workplace dynamics. With mounting anticipation, the film is slated for release on May 1, 2026, featuring the original cast stepping back into their iconic roles, making it one of the year's most awaited films.
