In a significant advancement for Dubai’s energy capabilities, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned a total of 1,994 new 11kV substations throughout 2025. This initiative marks a remarkable increase of over 30 percent from the 1,530 substations finished in 2024.

This achievement illustrates DEWA's commitment to modernizing and expanding its electricity distribution framework, in line with Dubai’s dynamic urban growth, rising population, and increasing demand for reliable energy services.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the authority’s commitment to aligning infrastructure development with the UAE leadership's vision, ensuring the effective delivery of world-class utility services to meet future energy demands.

He noted that DEWA is focused on enhancing its distribution network to meet international benchmarks, supporting Dubai's economic ambitions while addressing the anticipated electricity requirements extending to 2030. This approach aims to bolster Dubai's reputation as a prime global destination for living, working, and investment, in harmony with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s dedication to integrating cutting-edge technologies and digital solutions in the design, execution, and operation of its distribution networks. These initiatives are designed to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the reliability of the network while supporting Dubai’s sustainability aspirations and transition to net-zero emissions.

Rashid Bin Humaidan, DEWA's Executive Vice President for Distribution Power, stated that the construction and commissioning of these new substations entailed over 1.45 million working hours in 2025. He insisted that every phase of the project adhered to the highest health, safety, and quality standards.

Bin Humaidan added that as of the end of 2025, the number of medium-voltage distribution substations, incorporating both 11kV and 6.6kV facilities, reached 47,060. This growth highlights DEWA’s ongoing investment in enhancing Dubai’s electricity infrastructure, ensuring a secure, dependable, and sustainable power supply for its residents, enterprises, and future developmental endeavors across the emirate.

This recent accomplishment further cements DEWA’s pivotal role in bolstering Dubai’s long-term growth framework by creating a resilient energy network capable of addressing escalating demand while sustaining high service reliability and operational excellence.
